Gear — Common Questions
What BCKR gear can I get for Penn State right now?
The Cool One UPF Pullover. It’s our warm-weather piece — a real UPF 50+ sun layer built with brrr° patented cooling fabric and Toray DotAir, an ultra-breathable knit used in elite performance apparel. It launches in Penn State white, which makes it a natural fit for a September White Out at Beaver Stadium and every other hot day of the year. Officially licensed, cut like real outdoor gear, and built to a standard Penn State fans have been waiting for. It’s the first BCKR product available in Penn State colors, and it’s a strong place to start.
What makes the Cool One different from other Penn State gear?
Different product entirely. Most licensed team pullovers use basic poly-cotton blends and call it a day. They’re fine for what they are. The Cool One uses brrr° cooling fabric, Toray DotAir, and a YKK zipper for the half-zip — the same materials in a $200 sun hoodie from a top fishing brand or cooling layer from a premium golf company. But you’ve never seen them in Penn State white designed for a White Out. The best comparison isn’t a $50 fan pullover. It’s outdoor gear that happens to come set up for Penn State fans that want in on the biggest gameday tradition in college football.
Is BCKR officially licensed by Penn State?
Yes. Every Penn State Nittany Lions product is officially licensed through The Pennsylvania State University. The logos, colors, and trademarks are all authorized. We use exact Pantone color matching, not approximations, for every piece. We also donate 10% of Penn State product sales to support student athletes. BCKR isn’t a brand that licenses some logos. We’re a brand committed to making gear at the standard Penn State fans expect.
Is BCKR building more products for Penn State?
Yes. The Cool One is where the Penn State lineup starts, but the flagship BCKR product is the Dry One — a Toray three-layer waterproof jacket built to the same standard as a premium ski or fishing shell. That’s what’s on the horizon for Penn State, along with the rest of the BCKR system. When each piece is ready, we’ll launch it. Until then, the Cool One does a lot on its own.
Who is BCKR and why haven’t I heard of you?
We’re an independent brand, no corporate parent, no Super Bowl ads yet. We were founded by outdoor industry veterans, including the team that helped scale YETI from a regional cooler company into a global brand. We’re based in Austin, we ship every order ourselves, and we include a handwritten note in every package. We started BCKR because fans of major college programs had no real outdoor gear in their team’s colors. They had souvenir jackets that didn’t perform and premium outdoor gear that didn’t represent. So we made the gear that should have existed all along. You’re hearing about us now because the word is getting out.
Is the Cool One just for gamedays?
Heck no. The Cool One is a real UPF sun layer built for hot weather and beyond. People wear it on the river, on the golf course, on the boat, and on the trail. It’s officially licensed Penn State white with premium outdoor construction, so it works on White Out Saturdays and every hot day between them. We built this so your team gear could also be the best sun layer you own, not something that sits in your closet between Saturdays.
