We know what it’s like to suffer through TV timeouts and replay reviews in frigid temperatures and driving rain. That’s why we’ve built hand-warmer pouches into our Warm One Insulated Jackets and Dry One Waterproof Coats. Both jackets have discreet pouches inside the front hand pockets that are perfectly sized to fit portable hand warmers. The Warm One also has two rear pouches that sit near your kidneys, so you can warm your core just like if you were wearing a heated blanket.

We don’t sell hand warmers, but we have tested every model out there and happily offer our recommendations below on the best available versions, all of which fit neatly into our hand-warmer pouches. These aren’t affiliate links–we’re not making any money off of these recs. We just want you to maximize the warm comfort of your BCKR jackets.

Best Rechargeable and Most Useful

Ocoopa UT3 Pro Rechargeable Hand Warmers

$42.99 for a two-pack

If you’re not run off by the price tag, the Ocoopa UT3 Pro is our top choice. They charge in about three hours, then can keep pumping out the heat from the tailgate to OT and beyond. They have four different heating levels so, unlike other hand warmers, you can dial in exactly the level of warmth you’re looking for. And yes, the highest setting is TOASTY. Our favorite bonus feature on this model is the ability to use it as a battery pack to charge your phone, which comes in really handy after a full game’s worth of accelerated battery drain as your device continually struggles to get a signal. Other things we love: it fits perfectly in the DRY ONE and WARM ONE pouches, it provides up to 14 hours of heating time per charge and it offers the highest level of heat of any tested model. Some things we don’t love: it’s the most expensive, it’s heavier than the disposable options (you know when you have these in your pocket), it takes about three hours to charge (so you have to plan ahead), and it uses a lithium ion battery (which you can’t check on a plane and, well, aren’t great for the planet).

Best Budget and Grab-and-Go Hand Warmer

HotHands

$9.99 for 10 pairs ($0.50 each)

HotHands are classics for a reason. They’re super affordable, work great, and can be found at a ton of different retail outlets. You won’t be able to charge your phone or dial in a heat level with these, but you can get up to 10 hours of warming power per pack and the only advanced planning you need to do is to remember to stick them in your pocket.

Most Environmentally Friendly Hand Warmer

Ignik Resealable Multiple-Use Hand Warmers

$12.95 for 10 pairs ($0.65 each)

The Ignik hand warmers we tested didn’t heat quite as well as the HotHands, but they have other redeeming qualities. Their headline pitch is that, unlike HotHands, their contents are compostable. Supposedly (we haven’t tested this), you can just cut the packets open and dump the stuff inside on your compost pile. That takes some of the sting out of their single-use nature for those who are into composting. They also can be activated and deactivated, so you can spend their 10 hours of heating power over three days by putting them back in their resealable bag.
